Carlos Martínez wurde am 30. September 1955 in Pravia (Asturien, Spanien) geboren. Von 1982 bis 1987 studierte er bei Lehrern wie Manuel Carlos Lillo und Jorge Vera.
Seit 1982 arbeitet Carlos Martínez professionell als Mime, kreiert eine Welt aus Gesten, die sein mediterranes Temperament und seinen Humor mit präziser Technik und Rhythmus verbinden. Diese sehr persönliche Sprache ist universal und hat ihm somit die Freiheit geschenkt, nicht nur in Spanien aufzutreten, sondern in vielen anderen europäischen Ländern und ebenso auf anderen Kontinenten (Afrika, Asien sowie Nord- und Südamerika).
Carlos Martínez ist mit seiner fantasievollen Stille bei Kunst-Festivals (St. Wenceslas in Prag, Nuorten Kesä in Finnland), in Kirchen, bei Konferenzen (Amsterdam 2000, Mission in Holland), bei Tagungen (Rotary Club in den USA), in Botschaften, bei Festivals der darstellenden Künste (Mime Champagne und Mim D’Or in Frankreich, Mindelact Drama Festival in Kap Verde), im Fernsehen (ARD, BBC, TVE, TV3, ZDF), in Theatern (Byzantine Music Theater in Thessaloniki, Deutsches Theater in Berlin, Nationaltheater in Riga, Teatro Dimitri in Verscio, Theaterhaus in Stuttgart) und Messen (Expo 2000 in Hannover, Expo 2008 in Zaragoza, Rockwell in Madrid, Spanien) aufgetreten.
Carlos Martínez ist ständig dabei die Grenzen der Stille neu auszuloten, indem er eigene neue Stücke entwirft, die er auch im Auftrag zu bestimmten Anlässen, Kongressen und Messen themenbezogen entwickelt. «Hand Made» ist eine Sammlung seiner beliebtesten Stücke, die mittlerweile zu einem Markenzeichen geworden sind. Carlos Martínez hat Shows auf die Bühne gebracht, wie «Bücher ohne Worte», «Stille Nacht» (aufgeführt im Emsemble mit seinen besten Studenten), PianOmime (mit dem deutschen Pianisten und Komponisten Johannes Nitsch), «Meine Bibel» (als Hommage an das meistverkaufte Buch aller Zeiten) und «Die Menschenrechte» (Symbol für unsere Hoffnung, aber auch für unsere Frustration). Um sein 25-jähriges Bühnenjubiläum zu feiern erschuf er das Programm «Time To Celebrate». Im Jubiläumsjahr 2012 tourte er mit seiner Show «Fata Morgana», die inspiriert durch die Diskussion um Klimawandel und Wassermangel entstanden ist. Die Show ist auch eine Hommage an seine Kunst. Die Pantomime selbst ist ja nichts anderes als ein Traumbild, also eine Art Fata Morgana, die allein in der Fantasie zum Leben erwacht.
Seiner Show Bücher ohne Worte wurde 2009 der Publikumspreis des TeatroAgosto Theaterfestivals in Fundão, Portugal verliehen und seine Show «Hand Made» erhielt 2004 den Ehrenpreis des Publikums beim internationalen Almada Theaterfestival in Portugal. 2002 wurde Carlos Martínez Preisträger der ökumenischen Stiftung «Bibel und Kultur» mit Sitz in Stuttgart. Vorherige Preisträger waren unter anderem der Kammersänger Peter Schreier und der Regisseur Krzysztof Kieślowski.
Während Carlos Martínez weiterhin die intime Welt der Stille ergründet, hat er dennoch seine erste Liebe zum Theater nie aufgegeben. Er tourte in Schweden, England und Spanien mit der Zahori Theater Company bzw. dem Stück «The Golden Rule / Learning by Doing», einer Hymne auf die Erhaltung und Achtung der Vielfältigkeit innerhalb eines offenen Europas. Dieses innovative Projekt ist von der Sokrates-Stiftung der Europäischen Union gesponsert worden und war hervorragend geeignet als Theater für die Erwachsenenbildung.
Als Theater-Lehrer war Carlos an der Gründung mehrerer Theatergruppen beteiligt. Er lehrt Pantomime an öffentlichen Schulen, an der Universität in Zaragoza und bei internationalen Künstler-Seminaren. Carlos Martínez gibt darüberhinaus Master Classes an Universitäten und Schauspielschulen, wie der Scuola Dimitri, und ist Referent für Körpersprache und nonverbale Kommunikation bei renommierten Unternehmen. Er hat vier DVDs, Bücher ohne Worte, Hand Made, Meine Bibel und Die Menschenrechte, 2 Pantomimen-Handbücher Stille Kunst und Pantomimenwort und zu guter letzt das Hardcover-Buch «Ungeschminkte Weisheiten» veröffentlicht.
